Coming to Your Library in March:
What lies hidden beneath the popular images of New England with its white spires and Yankee frugality? More than meets the eye! Come join us as we look beneath the surface in "New England Uncovered," a free book discussion series sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council and the Brown Public Library.
Three book discussions have been scheduled for the month of March:
March 2: Peyton Place by Grace Metalious -- Scholar: Mary Hays
March 16: A Brother’s Blood by Michael White -- Scholar: Jim Schley
March 30: I’m a Stranger Here Myself by Bill Bryso -- Scholar: Pat Stuart
All discussions will be held in the Northfield Community Room beginning at 7:00 p.m. Books are already available at the Brown Public Library. Stop by to pick up your copies now -- It’s a great way to beat the mud season blues!
About Vermont Reads:

Do you like to read? Would you like a chance to talk about a book you’ve read with others in the community? If so, consider joining us for "Vermont Reads." The Vermont Humanities Council provides the library with multiple copies of discussion books, which can be picked up at the circulation desk.
The latest discussion was devoted to Julie Otsuka’s When the Emperor Was Divine, a novel about the experiences of one Japanese American family sent to an internment camp during WW II.
Recent Events:
The Brown Public Library offers our community a variety of presentations and workshops, such as "A Sampler of Japanese Culture."

Maiko Shimizu offered an introduction to Japanese calligraphy and origami. Her workshop, part of the “Vermont Reads” programming by the Roxbury Free and Brown Public Libraries, was designed for both youths and adults.
One Hundred Years:
This poster commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Brown Public Library, which was built in 1906.
